Royal Bank of Scotland, 65 Glaisnock Street

The first reference to a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland in Cumnock is the purchase of a fire-proof safe in 1856. This branch was rented for the next 10 years and in 1866, after the granting of a Feu Charter, work began on building the present building in Glaisnock Street.

Prominent merchants and tradesmen listed in an early "charge book" are MURDOCH (mason) MCLEOD (joiner) PATERSON (draper) BALLANTINE (stationer) MCGEACHIN ( ironmonger) MCLATCHIE (joiner) GIBB (plumber) WILLOCK (painter) MCCRIRICK (carrier) and MERRY (blacksmith).
