Cumnock Academy

Cumnock Academy in the Ayr Road was created out of the old Greenmill Primary School. The two schools swapped locations in 1969 - causing much confusion at the time. The buildings were erected (as Greenmill School) in 1952-54 and then extended in 1964 and 1970 (when it was Cumnock Academy). The Social and Recreational Wing was added in 1971. It is capable of housing up to 1800 pupils. The Academy awards the annual Sir John Latta Dux Medal - named after a wealthy shipping magnate.
